FocusAI: Smart Website Blocker & Deep Insights
Privacy Policy

FocusAI: Smart Website Blocker & Deep Insights is built on the principle that your browsing data belongs to you alone. This policy transparently describes exactly how your information is handled — and the one opt-in feature that involves an external service.

Introduction & commitment
FocusAI: Smart Website Blocker & Deep Insights is a privacy-first browser extension. We have zero access to your browsing history, personal information, or any data you store within the extension. Your block lists, schedules, focus sessions, usage stats, and preferences are stored exclusively on your local device. No servers, no data mining, no analytics — for all core features.

The one exception is the optional AI Productivity Advisor: if you choose to enable it, your local usage data is sent to Mistral's API using your own API key to generate personalised advice. This feature is entirely opt-in, requires no account with us, and is covered in full detail in Section 5 below.

We collect nothing — automatically
Zero automatic data collection. FocusAI does not automatically collect, transmit, store, or share any personally identifiable information. There are no analytics scripts, no crash reporters, no telemetry, no tracking pixels, and no background requests to any server. The extension never “phones home”. We have no idea which websites you block, how you use focus modes, or even that you installed the extension.

The only time any data leaves your device is when you actively request a response from the optional AI Productivity Advisor — covered in full in Section 5.
❌ No Google Analytics ❌ No remote config ❌ No cookies ❌ No fingerprinting ❌ No background server calls

Where your data lives (your device only)
All configuration and activity data — including blocked domains, scheduled rules, focus timers, usage limits, insight stats, and UI preferences — are stored using the browser’s chrome.storage.local (or equivalent local storage API). This data never leaves your computer, tablet, or device. It is not synced to any cloud account unless your browser itself provides sync encryption (e.g., Chrome sync), but even then the extension does not access or control that process. You can clear all data at any time by uninstalling the extension or via browser settings.
🗂️ Block lists & categoriesDomains, wildcards, custom categories — stored locally.
⏱️ Focus sessions & limitsSession durations, remaining time budgets, schedules.
📊 Insights & statsDaily/weekly block counts, focus minutes, streak info.
⚙️ PreferencesTheme, notification settings, advanced toggles.

Permissions & why they're needed
FocusAI requires certain browser permissions solely to deliver blocking and focus features. None of these permissions are used to collect or exfiltrate data:
  • declarativeNetRequest – Enables efficient, real‑time site blocking without seeing your traffic content.
  • storage – Saves your block lists, schedules and preferences locally.
  • alarms – Automatically enables scheduled blocking and focus sessions.
  • tabs – Detects the current tab domain to help you quickly block sites from the popup.
🔒 No permission is used for tracking, remote code, or user identification. The extension works fully offline.
🌐
Third-party services & the AI Advisor
For all core features — blocking, focus sessions, scheduling, insights, and usage tracking — FocusAI is entirely self‑contained. The extension never loads external fonts, scripts, images, or resources from any remote server, and embeds no third‑party libraries that could phone home. Your block rules, schedules, and preferences never communicate with any backend.

Optional AI Productivity Advisor — Mistral AI
FocusAI includes an optional AI Productivity Advisor powered by Mistral AI. This feature is disabled by default and only activates when you explicitly enable it and enter your own Mistral API key. When you request an AI insight, the following data is sent directly from your browser to Mistral's API servers:
  • Your local usage statistics (sites visited, time spent, blocked attempts, focus session data)
  • Your Mistral API key (transmitted securely via HTTPS directly to Mistral)
We — the developer — never receive, store, log, or have access to this data. The request goes directly from your browser to Mistral's servers. Mistral's own privacy policy and data handling terms apply to any data processed by their API. You can review their policy at mistral.ai/privacy.

If you do not enable the AI Advisor, no data ever leaves your device. You are always in full control.
✓ Opt-in only — disabled by default ✓ You supply your own API key ✓ We never receive your data ⚠ Mistral API: external service applies

Your control & data deletion
Since all data stays on your device, you have full control over it. You can:
  • Reset settings or clear block data directly from the extension’s “Settings” panel.
  • Remove the extension entirely → all stored block lists, schedules, and insights are automatically erased by the browser.
  • Manually clear browser storage (chrome://extensions → storage details) if needed.
✔️ Right to delete ✔️ No data retention ✔️ Full transparency
👶
Children’s privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
FocusAI does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, regardless of age. Because we collect no data automatically, and the one opt-in feature (AI Advisor) requires deliberate user action and an API key no child would have, there is no meaningful risk of storing information from children under 13. Parents and guardians can use the extension to create a focused digital environment, knowing that no behavioral data is ever recorded or shared.

Policy updates
Any future changes to this privacy policy will be reflected on this page and within the extension’s documentation. Updates will always preserve the core commitment: no automatic data collection, privacy-first design, and full transparency about the optional AI Advisor. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision. Continued use of FocusAI after changes means acceptance of the updated policy.
We aim to respond to privacy inquiries within 5–7 business days. Because no data is collected, most privacy questions are already answered in this document — but we’re always happy to help.
Privacy-First by Default
No auto-collection, no subscriptions, no hidden catch. AI Advisor is opt-in only.
